                                      Shiroishi

How to get to Sendai by train (what train line, rough estimate of round trip tickets and length of time it takes) or driving routes to Sendai.
The train line to Sendai is the Tohoku Honsen. Tickets are 740yen (one-way) and you can use Suica. It takes 45-50mins to get to Sendai. On Saturdays there are express trains that take about 40mins.

Shiroishi has a Shinkansen (shink) station called ShiroishiZao. Shink to Sendai takes 15mins and costs about 1500yen one-way.  Shinkansen to Tokyo takes exactly 2hrs and costs 10000 yen one-way. Shiroishi has a toll road interchange. You can take the local road (route 4) all the way to Sendai or use the toll road.

Location or areas for Shopping: shopping centers, book stores (foreign > books), where to find house hold items, electronics, foreign food, female toiletries, big & tall, supermarket, video rentals, etc.
Shiroishi has plenty of big supermarkets. I use York Benimaru. Next door to that is a huge drugstore called Tsuruha Drug.

There are plenty of useful shops around route 4 in Shiroishi, including:
- Yamaya (foreign food, cheap booze)
- Tsutaya (videos, CDs, books)
- Bookoff (books, manga)
- 100 yen shop

Electronics: There's a Yamada Denki on route 4 in Ogawara
Places to eat out: bars, restaurants, places for a quick bite, for dates
- Taru-taru (cafe/coffee shop, cool jazz theme, hamburgers and pizzas both awesome)
- Il Passo (Italian restaurant/cafe)
- Daijo (best umen restaurant in Japan. Served umen to Date Masamune!)

                                      Local/Area sight seeing spots:
Two local onsen spots: Obara and Kamasaki.
The castle! It's very good spot for hanami (cherry blossom viewing in the spring).
In winter: Shiroishi ski-jo is a cheap and friendly ski field. Great for beginners.

Public Transportation: The trains are really good. You can survive without a car
